Did you know? Today is International Play Day!
Falling on the 11th June, International Play Day marks a significant milestone in efforts to preserve, promote, and prioritise playing so that all people, especially children, can reap the rewards and achieve their full potential.
This year’s theme is “Choose Play – Everyday”. The theme is a reminder to all of us – governments, businesses, schools and families – to take decisions that embrace and prioritise play for children.
Research shows that play can improve children's abilities to plan, organise, get along with others and regulate emotions. In addition, play helps with language, maths and social skills, and even helps children cope with stress!
We have the following resources available in the shop, which could help your pupils and children to enhance their learning and skills through play! Why not take a look at the options below?
The Number Box
The Number Box is a multi sensory teaching programme and maths resource. It was designed for those children who struggle with maths for one of several reasons. The box contains dice, tape measures, a clock face and much more, all to help children play and take part in their learning. No set up time is required - simply open up the Number Box and go!
The Literacy Box
The Literacy Box is the multi-sensory phonics programme which enables the early identification of potential specific learning difficulties. The Box provides secure basic skills for reading, spelling and writing thus maintaining self-esteem and a more positive attitude.
The Ten Minute Box
The Ten Minute Box is a targeted multisensory phonics intervention for teaching digraphs to all learners from Primary to Secondary school, working alongside any phonics scheme in use within schools. The Ten Minute Box follows the principles set out in the Five Minute Literacy Box. Everything is in the Box: detailed instructions, assessments, lesson plan, fun activities, games and resources to teach more complex phoneme sequences.
Magnetic Rainbow Arch
The Magnetic Rainbow Arch is ideal for sequencing activities. This colourful and attractive mat has a rainbow arc on one side and an arc of letters on the other. Recommended for use with Smart Phonics letters. Children can play and make words and sound them out to enhance their learning!
SKCOR Chunks
SKCOR Chunks is an exciting word-building game which contains 140 bright, durable plastic tiles of the most commonly found onsets and rimes. It provides a fun way to discover and remember the key components that make up words, as the tiles can be manipulated into thousands of combinations.
44 Sound Desktop
The 44 Sound Desktop enables children to quickly access the various spelling patterns of the 44 phoneme sounds. A useful tool to have at hand during writing, which makes the task fun! Children can use them for support to write stories, poems, journal entries, and much more.
