What are your plans for National Handwriting Day?

Can you guess what today is? It’s National Handwriting Day!

This awareness day has been celebrated each year since 1977, on the 23 January.

While this awareness day may have originated in the United States, handwriting is an important skill for learners around the world, so today is a fantastic chance to get involved and think about ways you can support your learners to develop their handwriting skills.

Although many people prefer to communicate using technology, such as via email and text, handwriting is still part of our day-to-day lives, especially during times when we might not have access to devices. Many people even prefer to receive handwritten communication, as they find it more personal.

However, many learners and many other people may have difficulties with their handwriting. That’s why we’re pleased to stock a range of products in the shop that can help you to help them, whether by identifying their needs or using resources to make it easier.

The Detailed Assessment of Speed of Handwriting, Second Edition (DASH-2) is one of our most popular assessment products. It is used to identify children and young adults with handwriting difficulties, allowing you to provide them with the targeted support they need and any necessary interventions.

The test provides standardised subtest scores for a variety of different handwriting tasks, and offers objective evidence on which to base applications for special accommodations in education settings.

The test is suitable for both individual and group administration.

We’re also pleased to stock a range of coloured exercise books, plus overlays and rulers, to assist any learners with visual stress issues, that may impact their ability to write and read their own handwriting.

We hope you find the above products helpful for supporting your learners.

Don’t forget if you do have any questions about our available tests and resources, you can get in touch with us by calling +44 (0)1784 222339 or emailing shop@dyslexiaaction.org.uk for expert advice.
