Did you know? 20 May is National Numeracy Day, a day which has been celebrated in the United Kingdom since it was founded in 2018, by the charity National Numeracy. The goal is to focus on the significance that numbers play in our lives, such as when using money, weighing items, or even counting sheep to fall asleep!
People are encouraged to try and build confidence in their numeracy skills, even if they don’t consider themselves a mathematician!
If you are thinking of ways to better support learners to enhance their numeracy skills, we have a range of products in the shop to help! From assessing their needs to nurturing their learning, take a look at our numeracy-related products below.
New product!! The Maths and Dyscalculia Assessment
New product alert! The Maths and Dyscalculia Assessment is an easy-to-use maths and dyscalculia assessment aimed at pupils aged between 6 to 18. Designed for everyone from maths teachers to SENCOS, specialist maths teachers, teaching assistants and parents working with young pupils and teenagers with suspected dyscalculia and maths difficulties.
Basic Number Screening Test (BNST)
The Basic Number Screening Test (BNST) is a quick, reliable assessment designed to evaluate students’ understanding of number and number operations. This assessment takes 30 minutes or less, and can be administered to individuals or class groups. It assesses without reliance on reading ability, making it ideal for poor readers and less able learners aged 5 to 16 years.
Feifer Assessment of Mathematics (FAM)
Feifer Assessment of Mathematics (FAM) has been designed to assess the neurodevelopmental processes that support proficient math skills. FAM will assist practitioners in determining the presence of a general math learning disability (MLD) as well as the specific subtype of dyscalculia in order to better inform intervention decision making. It can be delivered to an age range of 5 to 21 years, and has a variety of subtests, so you can assess one specific area or draw up a profile of a learner.
New Access Mathematics Test (NAMT)
New Access Mathematics Tests (NAMT) is a progress test that helps you compare learners ages 10-16 against their cohort at a school and national level, understand their mathematical skills and areas where they can improve, and provide targeted interventions throughout their education.
More Trouble With Maths
Now in an updated third edition, More Trouble With Maths takes a practical and accessible approach to identifying and diagnosing many of the factors that contribute to mathematical learning difficulties and dyscalculia.
Drawing on tried and tested methods, as well as the author’s extensive experience and expertise, this book is written in an engaging and user-friendly style. It is a vital resource for anyone who wants to accurately identify the depth and nature of mathematical learning difficulties and dyscalculia.
The Number Box
The Number Box is a multi sensory teaching programme and maths resource. It was designed for those children who struggle with maths for one of several reasons, such as dyscalculia. The Number Box has benefits such as no need for lesson plans as the system is a continuous process through the skills in all areas, plus the children can manage the resources, encouraging them to become confident and independent!
Sequo
Sequo is a fantastic resource to support children with a range of mathematical concepts, especially times tables. The children can play games with the cards, and without realising, they are learning whilst having fun! The regular repetition and visualisation of the times tables will allow the children to memorise the numbers.
We hope you find the above products helpful for supporting your learners to enhance their numeracy skills, and enjoy celebrating a successful Numeracy Day!
